Effective: 01-17-24
Supersedes: 06-22-20
Purpose: To outline the policy for access to MyBrewster Online training.
Policy:
Brewster Ambulance Service, in conjunction with Comprehensive Medical Training Institute (CMTI), provides active team members with free access to MyBrewster, a robust online continuing education system to allow certified EMS personnel to meet many of their training requirements for maintenance of certification. Employees have access to a wide variety of course topics that meet or exceed Federal, State, or company specific requirements.
Employees must work a minimum of 384 hours in a rolling calendar year to be eligible for access to MyBrewster continuing education program.
Team members on a student leave or other approved leave of absence will not have access to MyBrewster until they are able to commit to a permanent schedule that meets the minimum hour requirement.
Procedure:
1. Employees are given unique log-on credentials to the system during orientation. User name / passwords should not be shared.
2. Mandatory classes may be assigned to the employee via the company’s MyBrewster education portal. As the due date for the program approaches, the employee may receive reminder notices to complete the program.
3. Classes may be taken while on duty as call volume allows.
4. Failure to complete assigned courses by the due date may subject the employee to progressive discipline, up to and including termination.
5. While attending continuing education courses, whether in-person or remotely, students are expected to provide uninterrupted attention to the material and/or instructor. Students are not permitted to engage in other activities while attending courses, including, but not limited to, responding to EMS or fire service calls, attending more than one course simultaneously or leaving a device unattended while a course is in progress. If needed, students may stop a remote, pre-recorded course and restart when timing allows.
6. Programs with the same approval number, taken more than once within the same renewal cycle will not count towards multiple times within that renewal cycle.
