Purpose: To create a process for current CoAEMSP Accredited or CoAEMSP “LOR” paramedic programs operating in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that places their paramedic students on Brewster Ambulance Service ALS units.
Policy: The following procedures will be adhered to when approving and scheduling clinical ride along candidates for educational purposes.
Procedure:
1. All programs requesting to send their paramedic students to Brewster Ambulance Service will send us the following documents before students can be approved to ride on our ALS units.
a. Current Field Internship Agreement signed by both the school President, Paramedic Program Director or Field Internship Coordinator.
b. Copy of school professional liability insurance with a 1,000,000 lower claim and 5,000,000 aggregate.
c. Program will furnish upon request by Brewster Ambulance Service copies of CORI documents, vaccinations and credentials.
d. Programs will provide Brewster Ambulance Service a letter that documents that student has successfully completed a Massachusetts OEMS approved paramedic programs didactic, hospital clinical and is now cleared to proceed to his/her field internship rotation with Brewster Ambulance Service.
2. All paramedic interns that ride with Brewster Ambulance Service ALS units will have the proper uniforms identifying the school they are associated with, photo ID and any other equipment their school provides.
3. All students conducting their Field Internship with Brewster Ambulance Service will only ride with ALS providers that have a minimum of (2) years experience as a practicing paramedic.
4. Students that ride on Brewster Ambulance Service ALS units will conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times. Brewster Ambulance Service reserves the right to remove any students from their field rotations for the following reasons:
a. Unprofessional behavior towards BAS staff or any of our public safety partners or hospital staff.
b. Falsifying documents relating to their ride time.
c. Stealing
d. Tardiness or “no call, no shows”
e. Clinical skills that are dangerous to patients or BAS staff.
